Di-Octyl Adipate (DOA) is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid that is used as a plasticizer in plastics, rubber and coatings. It is a diester of adipic acid and 2-ethylhexanol and is used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl acetate (PVA), polyethylene, polystyrene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers and nitrocellulose. It is used to increase flexibility and durability of these materials. DOA is also used in cosmetics and personal care products to impart a smooth feel and also to enhance the spreadability and absorption of the product. It is also used in food packaging and food contact materials as a plasticizer.
